The Vidhan Sabha today offered condolences over the demise of Ganesh Dutt Bharwal, former MLA from Chintpurni in Una (1980-85), on the opening day of the monsoon session here today.

The House offered condolences to the family of Bharwal, who had passed away at the age of 76 on July 20. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the state would remember Bharwal’s invaluable service to the people of the state. “He selflessly served the people of his area and continued doing so till his death,” he added.

Sukhu also expressed grief over the death of people during the ongoing monsoon season. Speaker Kuldeep Pathania said that Bharwal served the people of his constituency till his last breath. He contributed to the uplift of the poor, downtrodden and women, he added.

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur expressed grief over Bharwal’s death, who, he said, had selflessly served the people of his constituency, especially the OBC community to which he belonged. Thakur also offered condolences over the demise of over 200 people during the monsoon season, including 31 in his constituency of Seraj.

Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar and MLAs Sudarshan Babloo (Chintpurni), Rakesh Kalia (Gagret), Satpal Satti (Una) and Vivek Sharma (Kutlehar) also offered condolences to the bereaved Bharwal family.

Sukhu and Agnihotri also mourned the martyrdom of special commando of the Indian Army Vikas Bhandari, who hailed from Sakri village in Baijnath subdivision of Kangra district, in the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir while serving the nation.

The Chief Minister said that Bhandari laid down his life while defending the nation and people would always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice.

Agnihotri said the state was proud of its brave son, who made the supreme sacrifice. He added that Bhandari’s sacrifice would always be remembered.
