The Public Works Department has begun the construction of a footpath on a roadside stretch from Nadaun Chowk to the bus stand to provide safe passage to the public but the drain that is to be covered with the RCC slab is full of debris and garbage. The administration should direct the PWD and the contractor to clear the drain of the filth first for the smooth flow of water, otherwise it will get choked and will become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Demand for metalled road

Residents of Avahdevi in the Sarkaghat Assembly segment of Mandi district want that the road near the local market, which was left incomplete by the National Highway Authority of India, be metalled. Heaps of tiles can be seen on roadside, but there has been no progress to carpet the road with tiles. The authority should metal the road as soon as possible for smooth driving in the region.

MONKEY MENACE A NUISANCE

Despite claims by the government that the number of monkeys and langurs in the state has come down, they continue to remain a big nuisance. They often snatch food items from locals and tourists by biting them. They enter shops, homes and hospitals in search of eatables, creating a problem for all. The government must take some concrete steps to find a solution and keep them away, at least from crowded urban areas like the Mall in Shimla.
