Himachal CM CM: Rs 1,730 cr will be spent to modernise all govt hospitals

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital at Tanda in Kangra district and interacted with faculty members to assess the prevailing challenges. He announced that the hospital would be transformed into one of the premier healthcare institutions of Himachal Pradesh within a year.

The Chief Minister said that Rs 1,730 crore would be spent to modernise all government medical colleges in the state. “This initiative will significantly reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for treatment,” he said. He stressed the need to eliminate the waiting period for surgeries and diagnostic tests and announced that new departments, state-of-the-art medical equipment and expanded nursing education at the Tanda college, including B.Sc (Nursing), and more GNM seats would be introduced.

Sukhu engaged in a detailed dialogue with departmental heads and faculty members at the college. He reviewed the staff requirement and discussed the integration of advanced medical technologies and emphasised delivering world-class healthcare to the citizens of the state.

Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil said that robotic surgery had already been introduced at the Chamyana hospital and would soon be made available at the Tanda hospital. RS Bali, Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, praised the hospital''s achievements under Sukhu’s leadership, including the state’s first successful open-heart surgery and kidney transplant. Several Cabinet ministers, MLAs and senior officials were present on the occasion.
