Shimla, November 26

On the occasion of Constitution Day today, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya said India was being successfully guided and governed by the Constitution that had ensured all-round development and growth of the country.

He said the Constitution was a unique document for the whole world, for which Baba Saheb’s contribution could not be forgotten. “Democracy cannot be deeply rooted in society as long as the fundamental duties of the citizens are not supplemented with their fundamental rights,” he said. He also administered the pledge of the Constitution Day.

Speaking at a state-level function, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said it was on this day in 1949 that the Constitution was adopted and came into effect on January 26, 1950. He said the role of Indian Constitution was to protect democracy, maintain unity, harmony and integrity of the country at every cost. He said the Constitution was superior to all laws of the country.

A documentary on ‘Making of Constitution of India’ directed by Shyam Benegal was also screened on the occasion.
