Mandi, February 24

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur presided over the 12th foundation day of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Kamand in Mandi today. He inaugurated the Technology Innovation Hub, developed at a cost of Rs 110 crore.

Addressing the gathering, he said the IIT was the biggest and most prestigious institution of the state.

The Chief Minister said the state government would extend all possible help to provide better connectivity and infrastructure facilities to the institute.

MoU signed with district administration

An MoU was signed between the district administration and the IIT in the presence of the Chief Minister for the development of a landslide monitoring system in Mandi.

Thakur said having research projects worth over Rs 100 crore was an outstanding achievement for any institution. He said the IIT-Mandi Catalyst had received more than 1,000 applications so far and it had supported 140 start-ups.

He said the institute had distributed about Rs 3.5 crore for clean energy, environment, healthcare, agriculture, enterprise management, biotechnology, education, manufacturing etc.

He released a book titled ‘Scaling the heights: An institutional biography’ on the occasion.

He presented awards to faculty, staff and students.

Later, he inaugurated the Central Library Facility at the North campus completed at cost of Rs 9.5 crore.

An MoU was signed between the district administration and the IIT in the presence of the Chief Minister for the development of a landslide monitoring system in Mandi.

Mandi MP Ram Swaroop Sharma and Darang MLA Jawahar Thakur also spoke on the occasion.
