CM Sukhu, Congress president slam Union Budget for ignoring Himachal’s needs
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed disappointment over the Union Budget, terming it “inequitable” and focused mainly on Bihar. Sukhu stated that the budget failed to address pressing issues such as unemployment, poverty, and rising prices.
The Chief Minister highlighted the struggles of apple growers in the state, who contribute significantly to the state’s economy. He emphasised that the budget offered no measures to alleviate their financial constraints or increase the import duty on apples.
Sukhu also pointed out that the budget overlooked the expansion of the rail network in the state, which is essential for economic growth. Additionally, he mentioned that the cessation of GST compensation has put Himachal Pradesh in a precarious financial position, resulting in an annual loss.
“It’s an anti-poor budget and not futuristic. It is totally an opportunistic budget,” said Sukhu.
State Congress president Pratibha Singh also criticised the budget, stating that it was disappointing for Himachal Pradesh. She claimed that the budget favoured Bihar, with an eye on the upcoming elections, while ignoring the state’s needs.
Singh emphasised that the budget left fruit growers and farmers disappointed, particularly apple growers who had been seeking an increase in import duty on imported apples. She also criticised the BJP’s MPs from the state for failing to protect the state’s interests at the Centre.
