Dharamsala, April 24
The secretary to Ling Rinpoche, a Tibetan high Lama, has filed a complaint with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police regarding the name and images of the high Lama being used fraudulently for the purpose of “duping” his online followers.
In the complaint, the secretary has said that Ling Rinpoche is a renowned and important spiritual leader in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and thus he has a large following on the social media. As a spiritual leader who holds a position of trust and authority among Buddhist devotees in India and abroad, many of his followers are vulnerable to financial exploitation by agreeing to make donations to fraudulent online sites using his name, title and images.
He said the administrative office of Ling Rinpoche Yongzin Lingstang Labrang (YLL) has made several announcements on his official social media sites to warn followers that he would never engage in fundraising online, and that followers should report any requests for donations to the appropriate authorities.
Ling Rinpoche is the guru of the Dalai Lama as per Tibetan Buddhism.
