Cong govt can collapse due to internal discord, CM’s position unstable: Jai Ram

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had failed to fulfil the election promises during the two-year tenure of the Congress government.

The fomer Chief Minister, while addressing mediapersons here, claimed that the Chief Minister should worry more about his “chair” rather than about the Opposition. Thakur alleged that Sukhu’s position was unstable and his government could collapse at any time due to internal discord.

Thakur criticised the state government for its failure to fulfil the promises made to the public before coming to power. He said that the government’s two-year tenure had become a subject of discussion due to the unkept guarantees, which had even drawn reprimand from Congress’ national president Mallikarjun Kharge.

He said, “Before coming to power, the Congress had made several promises but failed to deliver on any of these. Today, the state government’s performance has become a nationwide joke.” He accused the Chief Minister of constantly changing his statements, which had led to growing unrest among his own ministers and legislators.

Thakur pointed towards the “ongoing strife” among Congress leaders, citing the delay in the inauguration of the Pandoh ropeway project in Mandi. The project funded by NABARD was initiated by the previous BJP government. He claimed that the Congress leaders were squabbling over taking credit for the project, causing further delay.

Thakur alleged, “Even ministers are now refusing to take responsibilities and constant reversal of policies and decisions by the government is causing embarrassment to the state nationwide.” He criticised the Congress government for failing to fulfilling the election guarantees and urged the Election Commission to issue guidelines in this regard.

He compared the approach of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who he said delivered on his promises, with that of the Congress and said the unfulfilled guarantees led to the party’s defeat in Haryana.

Thakur was accompanied by BJP state spokesperson Ajay Rana, vice-president Payal Vaidya, district BJP president Nihal Chand Sharma and Mayor of the Mandi Municipal Corporation Virender Bhatt.
