The Congress MLA from the Shahpur constituency and deputy chief whip, Kewal Singh Pathania, inaugurated the newly constructed Mahila Mandal Bhawan in Rakkad Ka Baag Panchayat on Saturday.

He announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh to the Mahila Mandal to help them purchase essential items and assured them that a religious tour would be arranged as requested by local women.

Speaking on the occasion, Pathania said the state government was giving top priority to the development of rural areas. He said a detailed project report (DPR) of Rs 45.55 crore had been prepared and submitted for the upgradation of the Rait-Chambi-Dharamshala road.

Highlighting the development works in Rakkad Ka Baag Panchayat, he said Rs 22 lakh was spent by the Rural Development Department while the Jal Shakti Department had invested Rs 20 lakh to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply. The Electricity Department also spent Rs 18 lakh on power system upgrades.

Pathania said the road in Dadiada Colony had been tiled at a cost of Rs 10 lakh.

He directed the Jal Shakti Department to identify a site for the installation of a new hand pump and asked the Forest Department to prepare an estimate for constructing a shed near the cremation ground. The Public Works and Rural Development departments were also directed to coordinate in the construction of two new roads in the panchayat. He said an open gym facility would also be provided for the youth soon.
