Congress organisation paralysed in state, says minister

Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar Chaudhary today expressed displeasure at the state of party affairs in Himachal which he said had been ‘paralysed’ as there was complete uncertainty over the reconstitution of the dissolved bodies.

Talking to media persons here today, Chaudhary expressed displeasure at the state of affairs of the Congress, following dissolution of the state party unit and the other committees. “All this must be taken very seriously as the government is formed on the strength of the party organisation,” he said while talking about the party’s dismal performance in the Delhi Assembly polls.

He said the results of the Delhi Assembly polls have been very disappointing and unless efforts are made to strengthen the Congress at the grassroot level, the party performance will continue to remain dismal. “Congress contested the Delhi polls in a casual manner, which reflected in the results,” he said.

“It is very unfortunate that the Congress finalises the names of candidates to be fielded only after the announcement of the elections with no prior grooming where a contender can get time to establish contact with the electorate of his constituency,” he lamented. He emphasised that the candidates must be groomed and decided well before the elections and there is no justification in contesting elections in such a casual manner.

“The party unit has been dissolved and there are no fresh directions on its re-constitution,” he said. He said the government is formed on the strength of the organisation as it is the party unit which works towards electoral performance. “There must be good coordination between the party and the government and there is no denying that the government is formed due to the work by the party organisation,” he remarked.
