According to the police, the impact of the collision was so severe that both occupants seated in the front — Kuldeep Kumar (27), son of Hoshiarpur Singh, and his wife Tamanna (26) — were trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Their bodies were retrieved by the police and local residents with the help of cutting equipment.
The victims, residents of Bhati village in Nagrota Bagwan sub-division of Kangra district, were travelling with their two children, Saksham and Priyanka. The children, seated in the back, miraculously escaped with minor injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors later declared their condition stable and they were discharged the same evening.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the accident occurred when Kuldeep Kumar, who was driving the van, may have lost control due to high speed or a possible mechanical failure. The vehicle, reportedly coming from Ranital, suddenly veered off course and hit the stone wall with great force.
The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital, Tanda, for post-mortem examination.
