Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has lambasted the Congress government over recent crimes in the state and said that the people of the state were paying the price for its incompetence.

Thakur, in a press statement issued here yesterday, stated that criminals had become so bold and fearless under the present government that no one was safe in the state. “Administrative officials are absconding in rape cases, which is extremely unfortunate. Heinous crimes such as the murder of an pregnant girl in Una whose body was found in a burnt condition, nephew slitting his uncle’s throat, rape allegations by a national-level player against an SDM, who is absconding for eight days, a child consuming poison in the Rohru region due to harassment, etc, have been reported in the state,” he added.

Thakur said that the most unfortunate aspect was the government’s silence and providing protection in such matters. “The real reason behind the rising crime graph is the government’s soft spot for criminals. The government’s silence, despite full knowledge of these crimes, is deeply painful,” he added.
