The Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP), Dharamsala, successfully concluded a one-week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” in collaboration with IIT Guwahati from June 2 to 6. Held at the university’s Dhauladhar Campus, the intensive programme brought together 104 faculty members and research scholars from across the country.

Aimed at equipping educators with the latest advancements in AI and ML, the FDP blended theoretical frameworks with hands-on learning. The lead expert, Dr Anupama Namburu, Associate Professor at JNU, conducted a series of engaging sessions covering a broad range of topics — from supervised and unsupervised learning to cutting-edge developments like deep learning, quantum computing and generative AI. Participants also took part in lab sessions, built predictive models and applied NLP techniques to real-world datasets.

The valedictory session, held on the final day, was presided over by CUHP Vice-Chancellor Prof Sat Parkash Bansal. Dr Gambhir Singh, Joint Secretary, UGC, and Subhash Saru, Director, Ministry of Education, were present as special guests.

In his address, Prof Bansal underscored the transformative potential of AI in shaping India’s future and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. “With India’s youth at the forefront of the digital revolution, it is our collective responsibility to harness AI ethically and inclusively for national development,” he said.
