Over 100 students and research scholars from various institutions would learn about cyber security during a five-day Boot Camp on Mobile Device Security, being held at the University Institute of Technology (UIT), Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla. The camp was inaugurated at the university.

The event is jointly organised by the department of electronics and communication engineering, UIT-HPU and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Mohali, under the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Project funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

Prof AJ Singh, Director, UIT, HPU Shimla, was the chief guest and Harpreet Bawa, project manager, C-DAC Mohali and project coordinator, ISEA, attended as guest of honour.

Assistant Professor Dr Anjali Sharma welcomed the dignitaries, experts and participants. Dr Neetu Dhiman, coordinator of the boot camp, said its objective is to equip students and researchers with knowledge and practical exposure in mobile device security, emphasising its growing relevance in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT) and 5G technologies.

Programme coordinators Dr Shyam Chand and Dr Neeru Sharma, head of the department of electronics and communication engineering, acknowledged the contribution of the C-DAC Mohali expert team — Sumera Farooq, Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Chandel.

The boot camp features 12 expert sessions by distinguished speakers from HPU, SPU, NITs and C-DAC Mohali, covering a wide range of topics including security in IoT-enabled mobile environments, privacy and compliance in the mobile ecosystem, role of artificial intelligence in mobile device security, emerging mobile threats and sybil attacks in adhoc networks.

Along with lectures, hands-on sessions by C-DAC experts would provide participants with practical experience in the latest tools, techniques and real-world applications in mobile and network security.
