Cybercrime helpline number linked with national portal

To ensure effective and quick redress of cyber fraud cases, the Himachal Pradesh Police have linked the cybercrime helpline number with the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and now complainants will be able to get their complaints registered within 15 to 20 minutes.

The NCRP has an online status tracking facility for the complainants and has national, state, district-level monitoring dashboards. With this portal, all types of cybercrimes can be reported from anywhere. The portal has special focus on content reporting of online child sex abuse material as well as rape and gang rape incidents.

DIG, Cyber Crime, Mohit Chawla said that the 24-hour cyber helpline number 1930 was launched in the state from March 20, 2023. “About 300 to 350 calls are received every day on this helpline number, mainly about financial frauds, social media fraud, inquiry and others.

He said that from January 1 to June 30 this year, 45,037 calls were received on the cyber helpline number while 49,182 calls were received from March 2023 to December 2023. He added that in today’’’’s digital age, cybersecurity was critical for protecting personal data and identity, financial information and money, business and reputation as well as privacy and freedom.

He advised people to stay ahead of hackers and scammers by using strong passwords and two factor authentication (2FA), by keeping software and apps updated, by being wary of emails and links, by using reputable antivirus software and by backing up important data.
