The date for opening bids for the ambitious Shimla passenger ropeway has been extended yet again. Now, the bids will be opened on March 10, said Ajay Sharma, Director, Ropeway and Rapid Transport Development Corporation, today. “There was just one bidder when we opened the bids last time. So, we have extended the date for opening bids till March 10,” he added.

According to Sharma, a few top companies have shown interest in the project and are constantly seeking information and clarification before bidding. As per the initial plan, the corporation is hoping to award the work to a selected company by March but it’s unlikely to happen by then. “It’s a massive project being executed in India for the first time. So, the companies and their international partners are taking time to take the plunge,” he added.

Shimla residents will heave a sigh of relief when all formalities are fulfilled and the work on the project starts. The 13.79-km ropeway network, from Taradevi to various localities of Shimla city, will make everyday commuting much easier for residents.
