Tragedy struck Sirmaur district on Thursday night and Friday as three persons lost their lives in separate incidents — one in a road accident, another in a fall from a steep slope and the third in an industrial mishap at a glass factory in Paonta Sahib subdivision.

In the first case, 50-year-old Chandrapal Thakur, a resident of Sail in Nohradhar tehsil, died when his car (HP79-1135) met with an accident near Nohra Dhar. The vehicle went out of control and crashed, leaving Chandrapal fatally injured on the spot.

The second incident occurred in Rajgarh subdivision, where Sushil Kumar, a resident of Dhamnia village, lost his life after falling into a deep gorge. Locals rushed to the spot, but he could not be saved.

The third case was reported from the industrial hub of Paonta Sahib. A 20-year-old worker, Sadil, a native of Kadawadi village in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district, succumbed to injuries after a tragic workplace accident at Shivalik Rubber Industries in Puruwala. While loading glass sheets onto a grinding machine along with co-workers, one sheet suddenly broke and a sharp shard pierced his abdomen. His colleagues immediately rushed him to a private hospital in Surajpur and later to Graphic Era Hospital in Dehradun. Despite all efforts, Sadil died during treatment.

According to Mukesh Kumar, a fellow worker present at the site, Sadil had been employed with the company for the past year as a helper. “We were six persons lifting glass to place on the grinding machine when it suddenly cracked in the middle. A piece hit Sadil directly in the stomach, causing severe bleeding. We tried our best to save him but he collapsed,” Mukesh said in his statement to the police.

The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem on Friday. Paonta Sahib Tehsildar Rishabh Sharma said a financial relief of Rs 20,000 has been provided to the bereaved family on behalf of the administration.

Sirmaur SP Nischint Singh Negi confirmed the deaths in all three incidents and said that police have registered cases under relevant sections to investigate further.
