In light of the ongoing monsoon season, the Shimla district administration has issued a public advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant during heavy rainfall and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, who also chairs the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), emphasized the importance of checking weather updates before setting out. “Avoid traveling to flood-prone areas, landslide zones, and low-lying regions during heavy rains. Never try to cross flooded roads or waterlogged paths,” he said.
People have been urged to drive cautiously, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and ensure all vehicle lights and indicators are in proper working condition. Damaged wiper blades should be replaced for better visibility during rain. Keeping an emergency kit in vehicles—with a torch, first-aid supplies, and warning signs—is highly recommended.
Health precautions are equally crucial. The DC advised residents to avoid contact with contaminated water and drink only boiled, filtered, or clean water to prevent waterborne illnesses like diarrhea and cholera. If symptoms appear, timely medication and medical help should be sought. For health-related emergencies, residents can call toll-free number 108.
Additionally, people are advised to wear waterproof shoes and raincoats to avoid getting soaked, which could lead to fungal infections. Wet clothing should be changed immediately, and homes should stock clean drinking water.
For any assistance or in case of emergencies, the District Emergency Operations Center can be reached at the toll-free helpline 1077.
