Himachal Women’s Kabaddi team members, that won the national championship, were welcomed by Kangra DC Hemraj Bairwa in Dharamsala today. Players of National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) of Sports Authority of India (SAI), Dharamsala, have continued their tradition of registering victory at the national-level.

The DC said the players of NCOE have maintained their dominance in the national games by winning the gold medal three times in a row. No state in the country has achieved this feat so far. The players have made a big record in their name, the DC added.

Five players of NCOE Dharamsala — Pushpa Rana (captain), Jyoti, Anshul, Champa and Bhavna —won the gold medal in the games held in Haridwar. NCOE Dharamsala’s kabaddi player Pooja Chaudhary, who was a member of Rajasthan’s team, won the bronze medal in the championship.

Before reaching the DC office, the players paid obeisance at the local Hanuman temple. The local residents of Dharamsala also joined the DC to welcome the winners.

The athletes of NCOE Dharamshala had also participated in the 38th National Games representing different states. Among them Simran, Dimple and Gagandeep represented Punjab in kabaddi, while Aanchal Gupta and Saba Anjum represented Uttarakhand. In volleyball, NCOE players Neha, Shalini, Tanishtha, Sneha and Preeti Nayak represented Himachal.
