In its communication, the Ministry of Defence highlighted the critical role of this highway and how the tunnel would serve as an alternative route to Leh and Ladakh, significantly enhancing the operational readiness of the armed forces in forward areas. Besides its strategic significance, the tunnel was expected to bring substantial socio-economic benefits to the region and the budgetary provision for the project would be made accordingly.

The Bhubhu Jot tunnel when ready would reduce distance between Kangra and Kullu by over 50 km, immensely benefit the local population and boost tourism in the region, thereby strengthening the economy of the people. The state government was prioritising tunnel construction to enhance road connectivity, promote sustainable development and minimise environmental impact.
