Ravi Rana (40), son of late Bhim Singh, deputy head of the Chek panchayat in the Chadiyar area of Kangra district, was found dead on Wednesday night. His body was discovered lying on the roadside, a short distance from his home, around midnight.
The police said that the deceased man had deep head injuries, prima facie indicating a case of murder.
Preliminary findings suggested that Ravi Rana had consumed alcohol at one of his friends’ house in Chadiyar and was returning home when the incident occurred.
Later in the night, a villager passing by in his car noticed him lying unconscious on roadside. Though he recognised him, to confirm his identification, he called on Ravi Rana’s phone, which began ringing at the site, confirming his identification.
The villager immediately informed the panchayat head and others, following which the local SHO of Baijnath police station Yadesh Thakur reached the spot and took possession of the body.
The police registered a case of murder against unknown persons, and the body was sent to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital at Tanda for post-mortem examination.
Senior police officials along with a team of forensic experts also visited the spot from where the body was recovered by the police for investigation. The police also questioned several villagers in connection with this incident.
Ravi Rana was unmarried and lived with his elder brother, as both their parents had passed away.
