Dharmani inaugurates state-level ITI sports, cultural meet at Shamshi
Town and Country Planning, Technical Education, Vocational and Industrial Training Minister Rajesh Dharmani inaugurated the 33rd State-Level Industrial Training Institute (Women) Sports and Cultural Competition at Government ITI Shamshi, located 7 km from Kullu. Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur attended the event as a special guest.
The five-day event brings together over 450 women participants from ITIs across Himachal Pradesh. Congratulating the players, the minister emphasised the importance of sports in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, confidence, and social unity. He stated that sports have transformed into a platform for career development, personality growth, and nation-building, fostering discipline, teamwork and leadership among the youth.
Highlighting the role of ITI-Shamshi, the minister praised it as one of the state’s oldest and best-equipped industrial training institutes. He shared plans to introduce new trades and upgrade existing courses to meet industry needs. He also announced the construction of staff accommodations at the institute.
Recognising advancements in urban transport and construction, Dharmani spoke about the rising demand for skilled professionals in ropeways, automated parking and lift technology. ITI-Shamshi, he announced, will be developed as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for specialized training in these emerging fields.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to building a skilled workforce to drive state and national growth. Special efforts are being made to align ITIs with industry demands to enhance employment prospects.
Additionally, the minister announced the establishment of a centralized ITI under the “hub-and-spoke” model.
In the competition, Kullu district secured first place, followed by Mandi in second, and Kangra in third. A grand prize distribution ceremony was held, attended by Chairman ITI Shamshi Shesh Ram Chaudhary, Chairman ITI Kullu Madan Sood, local officials, and dignitaries.
