One child is reported to be in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at the Regional Hospital in Kullu.
Acting swiftly, a Health Department team reached the village to examine patients and distribute medicines. Preliminary inquiries point to contaminated drinking water as the likely source of the outbreak. The Water Supply Department immediately cleaned and sanitised the village’s water source in response.
Naggar Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr Karan said oral rehydration salts (ORS) and other essential medicines were supplied free of cost to the affected. He noted that interviews with villagers revealed a common link: symptoms emerged soon after consuming local drinking water. Following this, the Jal Shakti Department was formally alerted and undertook remedial measures.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Nagraj Pawar instructed the Health Department to conduct comprehensive health checks in the village. The medical team subsequently examined all households, administered treatments and continues to monitor the situation closely.
Residents have been advised to practice proper hand hygiene, consume only boiled or purified water, and add probiotic-rich foods like curd to their diet to aid recovery. The outbreak has created concern across the community, disrupting daily life and underlining the urgent need for safe drinking water.
