A disaster management mock drill was organised by the District Disaster Management Authority at Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) in Bilaspur today to train students in tackling disaster-like situations.

National Disaster Response Force Assistant Commandant Karam Singh said the mock drill and awareness programme was conducted to train students of the school on disaster behaviour, rescue measures and how to deal with disaster-like situations.

According to the instructions of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) would organise activities under the Disaster Risk Reduction and Awareness Programme titled Samarth-2024 from October 1 to October 15 this year, he added.

Open drills were organised at the auditorium of the school and the District Language and Arts Culture Department office. Singh said various methods for earthquake and fire prevention were demonstrated during the drill. An incident of a fire in the school was enacted.
