The district administration has promised assistance to Nisha Kumar, a 19-year-old girl from Majhog Sultani village, who is suffering from aplastic anaemia. Sanjit Thakur, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), visited Nisha’s home today to offer support to her family.

Aplastic anaemia is a condition where the bone marrow fails to produce enough red and white blood cells, along with platelets. This results in a low red blood cell count, leading to a drop in haemoglobin, which carries oxygen throughout the body. A low white blood cell count also weakens the body’s ability to fight infections.

Speaking to Nisha, her parents and the community, SDM Thakur assured them of all possible help from both the district administration and the state government. He noted Nisha comes from a below poverty line (BPL) family, making it difficult for her parents to afford the expensive treatment required, including a bone marrow transplant. The treatment is expected to cost over Rs 20 lakh. He urged the public to contribute to the treatment of the child.

Sanjit Thakur added Nisha is currently receiving treatment at PGI Chandigarh. He advised Nisha’s parents to obtain an estimate of the treatment costs from the PGI doctors so that financial assistance could be arranged accordingly.
