District-level Pencak Silat championship in Nurpur

A one-day open district-level Pencak Silat Championship was organised by the Pencak Silat Club (Nurpur) at the Atal Indoor Stadium here on Saturday. In the championship, 130 students of various schools of the district from classes IV to XII participated.
Nurpur SDM Gursimar Singh opened the championship, and tehsildar Radhika Saini presided over the closing ceremony and awarded medals to the winners. As per information given by the local unit of the club, 45 students won gold medals, 32 bagged silver and 15 were awarded bronze. The championship was organised under the supervision of Pencak Silat Association state president Joginder Singh.
Pencak Silat Club (Nurpur) organising secretary Ajay Kumar said all gold medal winners would be eligible to participate in the state-level Pencak Silat Championship, set to be organised in Mandi on August 24 and 25. Pencak Silat is a full-body fighting form incorporating strikes, grappling and throwing. In this game, every part of the body is used, and subject to attack. — OC
