Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh paid floral tribute to Dr YS Parmar, the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, at the historic Ridge in Shimla on his 119th birth anniversary. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, along with other prominent leaders, was also present at the ceremony to honour the legacy of the architect of modern Himachal.

At Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahavir Singh also offered floral tributes to Dr Parmar’s statue and praised his immense contribution to the state’s development. Prof Singh said the progress Himachal has made in sectors like education, healthcare, and employment is rooted in the visionary foundation laid by Dr Parmar.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC described Dr Parmar as a great freedom fighter, social reformer and an inspiring figure who dedicated his life to the welfare of the people. He said Dr Parmar would always be remembered not only for his role in India’s independence but also for the transformative reforms he brought to society.

Prof Singh highlighted Dr Parmar’s key role in Himachal attaining full statehood and emerging as one of the leading states in the country. He also praised his deep connection with the grassroots despite holding high offices and his efforts to preserve Himachali culture and the Pahadi language. Calling him a farsighted statesman, a prolific writer, and a true son of the soil, Prof Singh said Dr Parmar’s legacy continues to guide the state forward.
