Dina Nath Shastri, former MLA of Drang in Mandi district, passed away today. He was 85. According to his family sources, Shastri experienced breathing trouble at his residence at Tandu village. His family members rushed him to the zonal hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Shastri had won the Drang seat in the 1990 Assembly elections on BJP ticket by defeating Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur. He had unsuccessfully contested elections in 1993 on the BJP ticket. In 1998, he contested on the ticket of the Republican Janta Party and in 2003 on the Himachal Vikas Congress ticket. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
