The Forest Department, along with the police, started a drive to remove encroachments in Nankhari on Tuesday. A mock drill was also conducted. As per Rampur Divisional Forest Officer Yashpal Singh, the High Court had ordered the removal of the encroachments after receiving reports of unauthorised occupation of forest land by 22 persons.

Residents of Nankhari were instructed to deposit their firearms as a precautionary measure ahead of the drive. The administration has notified the 22 individuals to vacate the forest land before August 27. After the deadline, the department will take steps to remove encroachments by August 30.
