In a clarification aimed at settling administrative confusion, SDM, Mandi (Sadar), Rupinder Kaur on Sunday said that the Drug Controller was the authority responsible for issuing licences for acid sale and not the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

Her remarks came after the Mandi SP suggested that the SDM generally issued such licences.

The SDM said that the Drug Controller was the legal and competent authority that oversees permissions for the sale and regulation of acid sales under the existing safety and compliance norms.

She added that proper licensing was essential to prevent misuse and ensure strict monitoring of corrosive substances.

The clarification is expected to streamline public understanding and guide businesses dealing with acid sale to approach the right authority.

Meanwhile, the administration has urged all vendors to fully comply with the rules and maintain accurate records to avoid legal action.
