Himachal Pradesh School Education Board to prepare progress cards of Class IX-XII students

In a first, the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board (HPSEB) is set to introduce Holistic Progress Cards (HPC) for students, aiming to provide a 360-degree assessment of their development. The move will cover students from Classes IX to XII in both government and private schools in the state.

1. The Holistic Progress Cards will include comprehensive details such as academic performance, co-curricular activities, sports participation, environmental involvment and even health records

2.n These cards will also carry information related to the medical conditions of the students

According to Major Vishal Sharma (retd), Secretary, HPSEB, these progress cards would include comprehensive details such as academic performance, co-curricular activities, sports participation, environmental involvement and even health records.

Significantly, the progress cards will also carry information related to medical conditions of students. All data will be uploaded online in phases, enabling quick access at the click of a button. “Holistic progress cards are being prepared. In these cards, every activity of students of private and government schools will be recorded. Their health data will also be made available online and can be accessed anytime,” he added.

The system is designed to provide detailed subject-wise performance reports, highlighting students’ strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, it will track the health status and flag any cases of substance abuse for timely intervention by parents and teachers.

For this, the HPSEB has launched a six-day workshop at its headquarters in Dharamsala, in collaboration with NCERT and PARAKH, to develop the framework for Holistic Progress Cards (secondary stage) under the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. According to HPSEB Chairman Rajesh Sharma, this initiative marks a significant step towards competency-based education. The workshop is focusing on preparing the draft of the cards and developing competency-based question papers and question banks. Teachers from across the state have been invited to receive training in these new methodologies.

Sharma said, “These progress cards and competency-based resources will play a crucial role in overall development of students and prepare them for future competitive examinations. These cards will be fully digital.”
