Eight days on, Kangra cops clueless on missing trekker

Despite intensive search operations by the Kangra police, local trekking experts and the Tour Operators Association, there is still no trace of Nitin, a trained trekker from Una, who has been missing for the past eight days. Nitin had ventured alone into the high-altitude Dhauladhar ranges last Monday and was last seen near Himani Chamunda.

Search teams, equipped with advanced equipment, have been deployed in the higher reaches, but no significant clues have been found. Officials suspect that inclement weather may have caused Nitin to lose his way. A senior state government officer confirmed that all possible efforts are underway, but the terrain and harsh conditions are proving to be major challenges.

Authorities have once again raised concerns over trekkers ignoring official advisories. Despite repeated warnings by the district administration, many enthusiasts continue to trek without guides, fail to inform the police or tourism department, and venture out during unpredictable weather.

In the past, over 30 trekkers have required rescue operations in the Dhauladhar region. While some, like a recently rescued Israeli trekker in Triund, were found after days, others have vanished in the snow-covered ranges without a trace, raising serious safety concerns.
