Hardeep Singh (45), a civil engineer from Nagrota Surian in the Jawali subdivision of Kangra district, has been missing since July 31 when a cloudburst wreaked havoc at Samej village in Shimla district.

Hardeep was working in a hydel project being executed by Greenko Power Company at Samej. The engineer’s family members rushed to the spot on August 2 to identify the bodies recovered from the debris, but he wasn’t among them.

His old parents and wife are under mental trauma ever since they got information of a cloudburst at the project site. The father of two was the lone breadwinner of the family and had been working with the power project company for the past nine years. Hardeep’s daughter had recently passed Class XII exam, while his son is a Class IX student.

His father Joginder Singh and mother Kartar Kaur had talked to Hardeep on July 31 evening. The next morning they got to know about the cloudburst at the project site. They tried to contact their son on his mobile several times, but without any success.

Meanwhile, a team of doctors have taken DNA samples from the parents of the missing engineer for matching these with the bodies being recovered from the cloudburst spot at Samej village.
