Experts: Tourism sector a force for economic, social transformation

Organised by the School of Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management under the theme "Tourism and Sustainable Change", the event aimed to emphasise tourism's role in environmental protection, cultural preservation and inclusive development.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Sat Prakash Bansal highlighted that tourism today is a global force for economic, social and cultural transformation. He called for sustainable tourism models that prioritise community values, technology and environmental well-being, especially in ecologically sensitive regions like Himachal Pradesh.
The celebration featured over 25 programmes, including quizzes, cultural performances, exhibitions and panel discussions. More than 60 teams and individuals participated in competitions such as the national quiz, declamation, treasure hunt and student exhibitions. Cultural performances showcased India's diversity, including Himachali folk dances and art from Kerala, Odisha and Gujarat.
Prof Sandeep Kulshrestha, Director Academic Collaborations, CUHP, said, "In the rapidly changing geopolitical environment, the global community is also looking towards India with curiosity and the positive impact of India's innovations is eager to take Indian tourism in a new direction."
Distinguished guests emphasised the importance of responsible tourism and balanced development. The event was coordinated under the leadership of faculty members and student teams.
