Farmers, agriculture experts attend training event on natural farming

In an effort to promote sustainable agricultural practices, YS Parmar from University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, recently conducted a three-day training programme on natural farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming.

The programme, which was held at the Directorate of Extension Education, focused on the environment-friendly farming techniques for participants from Punjab. This marks the second batch of training sessions conducted by the Centre of Natural Farming.

The event saw the active participation of key stakeholders, including officials from the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, and Veterinary Department. Additionally, Block Programme Managers (Farm Livelihood) and farmers from across the state also attended the event.

Throughout the training, the resource persons provided comprehensive insights into the principles and practices of natural farming.

Inder Dev, Director of Extension Education, stressed the importance of adopting sustainable farming methods, not only for the benefit of current agricultural practices but also to secure the future of farming for generations to come.

The training also featured a special session with Shailender Sharma, a farmer from Solan, who spoke about how adopting these methods had significantly boosted his income and enhanced his farming practices.

VC Rajeshwar Singh Chandel also addressed the participants, encouraging officials to take the lead in promoting natural farming at their respective posts, starting with small-scale initiatives such as kitchen gardens. — TNS
