Fatehpur leads as Kangra farmers bring over 18,000 quintal paddy to mandis

A total of 18,864 quintals of paddy has been procured so far at all four centres under the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Kangra. Among them, the Fatehpur Grain Market has received the largest quantity.

Nishu Mongra, District Chairman of Kangra APMC, said this on Sunday. He presented the data relating to the state’s largest district and said that the APMC had ensured smooth and farmer-friendly operations at all procurement centres.

He said that 93 farmers had supplied 6,890 quintals of paddy to the Fatehpur Grain Market alone. Similarly, 107 farmers had brought 5,308 quintals to Milwan, while 106 farmers delivered 6,545 quintals at the Riyali mandi. At the Nagrota Bagwan procurement centre, three farmers had brought 120 quintals of paddy.

Mongra said that, following the directions of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the APMC was providing modern facilities and seamless services to farmers. So far, 309 farmers had brought their produce to the centres and the number was expected to rise in the coming days.

He said that 11 regulated sub-markets and four grain procurement centres were at present operational in Kangra district. Paddy procurement began at Milwan, Riyali, Fatehpur and Nagrota Bagwan on October 3. To ensure farmers’ convenience, the Kangra APMC had arranged basic amenities such as electricity, water, toilets and rest areas at each centre.

Five sub-markets linked to e-NAM

A total of five regulated sub-markets under the Kangra APMC have been integrated with the National Agricultural Market (e-NAM) platform, enabling farmers to sell their produce online and receive fair, transparent and profitable prices.

At present, 8,476 farmers are registered under e-NAM in these markets. From April to October this year, online payments to the tune of Rs 4.16 crore have been made directly to farmers for their produce sold through the platform.
