Father-son duo killed, three injured in Shimla car accident

The district administration grants Rs 25,000 to the family of the deceased

A man and his son were killed while three others were injured after a car they were travelling in plunged into a 100-metre gorge near Riyuni in the Chopal subdivision of Shimla district, police said on Wednesday.

According to reports, the accident took place near the Lankra Veer Temple while the group was on their way to Pulbahal from Chopal.

The deceased have been identified as Ramlal Sharma (55) and his son Deepak (28), both residents of Shihali village in Chopal.

The injured include Ramlal’s wife Suman; Rajesh Sharma of Dharot village in Chopal; and Pankaj Sharma, a resident of Dhanach village in Rajgarh, Sirmour district.

Locals who witnessed the accident informed the police. A police team promptly reached the spot, rescuing the injured from the gorge and recovering the bodies of the deceased.

The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Chopal from where they were referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chopal Sushant Sharma confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway.

As part of immediate relief measures, the district administration has granted Rs 25,000 to the family of the deceased and Rs 7,000 each to the injured.
