Reflecting on the rich legacy of the state as a land of valour, he expressed concern that drug addiction among the youth could compromise national security by weakening future generations. Recognising the pivotal role of women in this movement, he called them the strongest force to lead the fight against drug addiction.

“Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, I initiated an anti-drug campaign in Himachal Pradesh a year ago. While progress has been gradual, the successful execution of this sports-based awareness programme reflects positive momentum,” the Governor said. He urged Panchayati Raj representatives to actively contribute to the cause, including seeking police support against drug abuse.

The Governor emphasised the need for a collective approach, involving government efforts, societal awareness and cultural connection to safeguard and enhance the rich traditions and values of the state. He commended the Arki Welfare Society for its dedication in making the campaign a success.

He highlighted the importance of sports not just as a means to encourage athletic talents but also as an effective tool to steer the youth away from the menace of drugs. He pointed out that drug addiction posed a significant threat to the youth of the nation, who are future of our society. He emphasised the theme of the campaign, “Khel Khilao – Nasha Bhagao”, as a clarion call for the youth to adopt sports and shun the harmful lure of drugs.

He appealed to parents, educators and community members to use such occasions to discuss with the youth the importance of making wise choices. He emphasised the collective responsibility of families, schools, society and government in achieving this goal. The Governor also enjoyed the final match of the women’s tug-of-war competition organised on the occasion. He also awarded the winning teams of cricket and tug-of-war competition.
