A fire broke out at a pharmaceutical unit’s injection manufacturing section at Nandpur area of Baddi last evening around 8.15 pm, causing loss worth Rs 10 lakh.

The blaze erupted from the upper floor of the pharmaceutical factory, affecting the production area where injections were being manufactured. Raw material, manufacturing tank, panels and other paraphernalia of the unit were gutted in the fire.

The workers rushed out as soon as the blaze spread, however, one worker, who suffered asphyxiation, was taken to a private hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.

Home Guards Commandant Santosh Sharma said information regarding the fire was received at 8.18 pm from a unit at Nandpur last evening, following which three fire tenders were dispatched to the site.

“It took about two-and-a-half hours to douse the fire though property worth Rs 10 lakh was gutted in the blaze and property worth Rs 50 lakh was saved,” added Sharma.
