The district administration has imposed a complete ban on the sale of firecrackers and fireworks in Shimla city and surrounding areas, with the exception of the notified places.

While issuing the orders today, Shimla District Magistrate said this Diwali, sale of firecrackers would be allowed only at the designated places.

The ice-skating rink, Boileauganj playground (opposite Gopal temple), Sanjauli area ahead of the PWD parking towards Chhota Shimla, Khalini bypass, HPU ground at Summer Hill, open space on the road from Chhota Shimla towards Kasumpti, open ground near Government Senior Secondary School, Phagli, Panchayat Ground, Bhattakufer, bus stand near Sector 6 Kangnadhar, New Shimla, Talai Mandir ground, Mashobra, near Vikas Nagar police post, new parking at Tutu, Rani ground at Kusumpti and Panchayat Ghar Thadi, Shoghi, have been identified as designated places for the sale.

Kashyap said to avoid any untoward incident, it would be mandatory to remove all vehicles parked in these places. The Municipal Corporation Shimla and Public Works Department will identify the areas and stalls will be set up at all places. The Fire Department will provide firefighting system at all places as a precautionary measure.

These orders will remain in force from October 24 to October 31.
