Flood-prone Pabbar river to be geo-tagged, says Shimla DC

Deputy Commissioner, Shimla Anupam Kashyap today said that the District Disaster Management Authority would send two proposals of Rs 10.39 crore to the State Disaster Management Authority for approval.

He said that under the first proposal, geo-tagging of the Pabbar river and its tributaries falling in the Rohru region would be carried out.

“Flood-prone areas of the Pabbar will be mapped at a cost of Rs 1.83 crore. Geo-tagging will also be done alongside mapping. The proposal includes a study of the current water levels in the tributaries of the river, its flood carrying capacity during peak periods and other factors,” he added.

Kashyap said, “The aim is to minimise impact in surrounding areas during disasters. A strategy for a balanced use in the region will also be developed. This proposal is expected to be highly beneficial from the perspective of flood management.” He added, “The second proposal includes the widening of the Cart Road to Annandale stretch at a cost of Rs 8.55 crore.”
