Forest Dept seizes truck carrying Kashmal roots in Chamba

The Chamba Forest Department successfully intercepted a truck illegally transporting Kashmal (Berberis aristata) roots without permission on the Salooni-Himgiri road. The department has impounded the truck and initiated further investigations.

According to reports, the incident took place on Tuesday around 8.30 pm when the Forest Department team was present at the site. A truck approaching from Himgiri was signaled to stop, but instead of complying, the driver broke through the barrier and attempted to flee. The Forest Department team pursued the vehicle and managed to seize after 1.5 km chase. Upon inspection, the truck was found loaded with Kashmal roots.

Churah Divisional Forest Officer Sushil Kumar Guleria confirmed the truck’s seizure and assured that a thorough investigation was underway. He also commended the vigilance and swift action of the department’s team.
