Founder’s Day celebrations begin at Sanawar

The three-day 177th Founder’s Day celebrations have begun at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, with old students from across the globe converging on the school to reminisce their much-cherished school days.

The celebrations commenced amid Gandhian thoughts, nostalgia of yesteryear, old memories and sporting spirits at school, the world’s oldest co-educational residential school. The students, management and Old Sanawarians gathered to mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

Solan District and Sessions Judge Justice Arvind Malhotra graced the occasion as the chief guest. The chief guest announced and felicitated the Gandhi Award winners Sirat Dua, Tanmaya Sahni and Inaaya Kumar.

The Gandhi awards were instituted by Navin Chawla, former Chief Election Commissioner of India and an alumnus of the school. Followed by felicitation of 10 employees — Safai and Paryavaran Mitra — who were honoured for their commendable contribution in Svabhaav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata under the aegis of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan campaign.

A basketball match was played between Old Sanawarians (OSs) and present Sanawarians to brace up a sense of sportsmanship in the participants.

Present on the occasion, Pankaj Sapru, President of the Old Sanawarians Society (OSS) said, “This playground had been the foundation of our fitness. It is a nostalgic feeling for the entire OS team to get into action against the young ones.”

The afternoon witnessed a special assembly for the jubilee students at the school’s chapel. As many as 80 alumni of the 1954, 1959, 1964 and 1999 batches refreshed their memories with the students.

The Headmaster, Himmat Singh Dhillon, highlighted the school’s achievements of the recent times.
