Four drug peddlers convicted in ten days in Nurpur

The conviction of two more drug peddlers by special designated courts within a gap of 10 days has given a boost to the Nurpur police’s drive against the drug mafia.

In the first conviction, the state Wakf Tribunal and Special Judge, Dharamsala, has convicted Sukhdev of Damtal and sentenced him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 1 lakh. According to information, the Indora police team stopped a motorcycle at Ranchi Mor in March 2018 and recovered 8.28 grams of heroin (chitta) and Rs 53,200 from Sukhdev. A case under the NDPS Act was registered after him.

In the second conviction, the Tribunal Court convicted Munish Sharma, a resident of ward number 7, Nurpur, and sentenced him to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh. He was arrested with 5.57 grams of chitta in February, 2020, in Nurpur.

On September 18, the Special Judge, Nurpur, had convicted Ravi Singh of Bhaleta village with two years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000.

On the same day, the court had also convicted Kuldeep, alias Kaka, of Barota (Indora) and sentenced him to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 15,000. He was also a habitual drug peddler with multiple NDPS cases registered against him, including two by Mukerian and Hazipur police stations in Punjab in 2019 and 2023.— OC
