Freedom fighter Sher Singh of Trilochan Kothi village in Sarkaghat of the district died at 98 today in Mandi. He had been undergoing medical treatment for the past two years. He was a soldier of the Azad Hind Fauj under the leadership of Subhas Chandra Bose.

At 25, Sher Singh had joined the Fauj and fought the Britishers. Netaji had given him the title of Sher-e-Hind.

His last rites were conducted at his native village. The administration paid tributes to the freedom fighter. SDM and DSP, Sarkaghat, were present at his cremation. He was survived by three son and five daughters. — TNS
