Garbage collection vehicle plunges into gorge, 1 dead

A driver employed with the Municipal Corporation, Shimla, was killed after a garbage collection vehicle, in which he was traveling, plunged into a gorge.

The accident took place around 7.45 am on Saturday, when the deceased was on his way from Shimla to Bharyal village. It is suspected that he lost control of the vehicle. Locals, who witnessed the mishap, immediately informed the police.

A police team reached the spot and recovered the body from the gorge. The deceased has been identified as Vinod Kumar, a resident of Krishna Nagar in Shimla. He was an employee of the SHEB society since 2010. The body was taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) for postmortem.

Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi confirmed the report, saying further investigation was underway.
