Goa delegation gains leadership, innovation insights at HP varsity

Senior faculty members, students and officials from Goa’s Department of Higher Education, Goa University and the Indian School of Business (ISB), Mohali, received hands-on exposure to institutional leadership, academic administration and innovation-driven higher-education models during their visit to Himachal Pradesh University (HPU).

The visit was organised under the Advanced Leadership and Motivation Programme coordinated by the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, ISB-Mohali. Addressing the delegation, HPU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahavir Singh highlighted the university’s academic vision, its commitment to excellence and ongoing initiatives to strengthen higher education in Himachal Pradesh.

Dean of Studies, Prof BK Shivram briefed the group on the National Education Policy (NEP), academic reforms underway at HPU and measures to enhance the research ecosystem. The Dean of Research & Development also detailed steps being taken to improve research quality and encourage collaborative projects. The delegation was welcomed by Prof Mamta Mokta, Dean Students’ Welfare and Chairperson, Department of Public Administration. The interaction centred largely on the Right to Education (RTE) and its implications for higher-education administration and policy-making.

Dr Ramesh Chand Thakur, Director IQAC, and Prof JS Dhiman, Dean Planning, shared their perspectives and engaged in discussions with the participants.

ISB Policy Director Dr Arushi Jain outlined the objectives of the programme and emphasised ISB’s commitment to building leadership capabilities in the higher-education sector. Dr Neeyan Marson, Programme Director, Department of Higher Education, Goa, spoke about institutional leadership, academic development and the importance of inter-state learning for Goa’s educational progress.

Members of the Goa delegation appreciated the enriching institutional interaction and noted that such exchange programmes play a crucial role in strengthening leadership, improving administrative processes and fostering inter-state collaboration.

“The Advanced Leadership and Motivation Programme will continue at ISB-Mohali through the coming week, featuring sessions for senior higher-education faculty on leadership development, institutional innovation, motivation and evidence-based governance,” said the Dean of Studies.
