The College of Basic Sciences at Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSKHPKV), Palampur, witnessed an emotional homecoming as the 1973-1977 agriculture batch of the erstwhile Himachal Pradesh University returned to their academic roots after five decades today.

The reunion brought together alumni who have since become pioneers and leaders in agriculture and allied sectors. Some participants travelled from far-off corners of the country, while others journeyed across international borders to reconnect with their alma mater. Their return transformed the campus into a vibrant mosaic of nostalgia — of friendships rekindled, memories revived, and achievements celebrated.

Led by Dr SP Sharma, former Director of Research, CSKHPKV, the visiting group included distinguished alumni Tilak Dhiman, Kuldeep Rana, Joginder, Daulat Ram, Kapil Saroch, Purshottam Chand, Pritam Thakur, Vijay Kumar, Subhash Dhiman, and Kamlesh Kumar. A standout moment of the event was the arrival of Tilak Raj Dhiman from the United States, exemplifying the strength and longevity of the bonds formed during student life at Palampur.

The alumni revisited classrooms, lecture theatres, and laboratories where they once explored the fundamentals of agricultural science as young scholars. Many were visibly moved as they stepped back into the spaces that shaped their academic and professional journeys. Laughter echoed in the corridors, reminiscent of the days when dreams were just taking flight.

Dr Rajan Katoch, Dean of the College of Basic Sciences, formally welcomed the batch and applauded their collective contributions to research, development, and agricultural progress. “This institution takes immense pride in your achievements. You are not just alumni, you are the pillars who have strengthened the global identity of CSKHPKV,” he remarked.

They also took a campus tour to witness the university’s ongoing transformation, including new academic facilities and research advancements that reflect the evolving landscape of agricultural education.

The event served as a bridge connecting generations — honouring the past while embracing the future. It underscored the institution’s rich legacy and highlighted the enduring spirit of those who laid its foundation during the formative years of agricultural education in HP.
