Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla presided over the Army Mela held at the Annandale ground today on the occasion of Army Day. Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Army Training Command (ARTRAC), Shimla, welcomed the Governor.

The Governor said. “It is an important occasion as we pay homage to the indomitable spirit, unwavering commitment and unparalleled sacrifices of brave soldiers. It is a day to honour valiant soldiers, who defend our borders with courage, dedication, and selflessness.”

He said that the armed forces faced immense challenges, ranging from safeguarding our borders against external threats to helping in disaster relief operations within the country. “It is important for us as citizens to appreciate sacrifices made by the armed forces and understand the magnitude of their contributions,” he added.

The Governor said that such programmes would generate more enthusiasm among the young generation to join the Indian army. He also honoured Army personnel on the occasion and visited the Army Heritage Museum. Earlier, the Kalaripayattu team from Madras Regiment performed martial art. A Pipe Band display and Gatka were also performed.

Senior officers of the Army and the district administration, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets and other prominent people attended the function.
