Govt officials adopt schools to boost education in Kangra

Many serving and retired government officials, including Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa and several SDMs, have adopted government schools in Kangra district as part of the state’s ambitious ‘Apna Vidyalaya’ programme. This initiative aims to improve the quality of education in government schools and create a positive educational environment.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, all 548 government schools in Kangra have been adopted under the scheme. The initiative is designed to motivate students and ensure greater attention is paid to the schools’ educational standards. In Kangra district, ministers, MPs and MLAs have each adopted five schools. Other public representatives have adopted 166 schools, while officials from various departments have taken responsibility for 24 schools. Retired officials have adopted 17 schools and retired military officers have taken on 54 schools. Additionally, retired college professors and principals have adopted 282 schools.

Among the prominent figures adopting schools are Tourism Corporation Chairman RS Bali, who has adopted Government Senior Secondary School, Nagrota Bagban; Cooperative Bank Chairman Sanjay Chauhan, who has adopted Saloh School; and the DC Kangra, who has adopted Bagli School. SDMs, IPS officers and other public representatives have also adopted schools in their respective areas.

Deputy Director of Education, Vikas Mahajan, stated the programme has already led to visible improvements in educational standards and has created a sense of excitement among students.
